FAQ

I tutor students in their own homes or at a public library.   I work with students in Princeton, Montgomery, Hillsborough and surrounding areas in New Jersey.

Where would my child be tutored?

I work with children in grades five through twelve.  Some have learning disabilities, some are gifted, and others have no particular label; all benefit from the individual attention and guidance of a tutor.  While some children need help with classwork, others benefit from enrichment lessons, so that they are appropriately challenged and are given the opportunity to excel beyond grade level expectations.

Whom do you tutor?

As an educator, my aim is to teach your child to write the best college application essay that she can.  I do not simply edit essays online, because I want to be sure that the work showcases the student's best work, not mine. I work with the student to choose an original topic and to structure the essay.  While she writes, I answer questions. After she finishes the first draft, we edit the essay together.

How long are tutoring sessions and how often do you meet with students?

Each tutoring session is one hour long.  I usually meet with students once or twice a week for whatever period of time the parents choose.  A specific project, such as a college application essay, might take three or four meetings.  Remedial and enrichment programs might extend through a semester or the school year.  I meet with students in summer too.

I focus on the English sections of the SAT's and ACT by teaching reading, writing, grammar, punctuation, and other specifics of language usage.  I do not teach math or other subjects, as I prefer to stick with my area of expertise.

Would you help my child with the math portion of the SAT?

If you would like, I would be happy to contact your child's teacher to discuss the student's performance in English class. For a child who is struggling to learn in class, I would address the same material as the teacher, but I would tailor the lessons to the individual's learning style.   For a child who does well in class, I would offer material to help him or her progress beyond the grade level expectations.
